NH00 125A Fuse Application in a JP Low-Voltage Distribution Cabinet

NH00 125A Fuse Application in a JP Low-Voltage Distribution Cabinet

In 2024, we began cooperating with a manufacturer of JP low-voltage distribution cabinets. The customer produces integrated low-voltage equipment for power distribution, circuit protection, metering and control in 0.4 kV electrical distribution systems.

For this project, we supplied NH00 125A gG fuse links for installation inside the customer's JP cabinets. The application photographs show four fuse links installed side by side with corresponding NH fuse bases or holders and connected to color-coded conductors as part of the cabinet's low-voltage circuit protection assembly.

Customer Application

A JP low-voltage distribution cabinet combines several electrical functions within a single enclosure, including power distribution, protection, metering and control.

The protection components installed inside the cabinet must be suitable for the available installation space and coordinated with the cabinet's conductors, loads and other electrical devices.

For this project, the customer required a compact fuse solution that could be integrated into its existing cabinet design while providing overcurrent protection for the low-voltage distribution circuit.

Selected Fuse Solution

We supplied NH00 125A gG fuse links for the project.

The NH00 size provides a compact standardized format for low-voltage distribution applications. The gG utilization category is a full-range fuse-link category commonly used for general-purpose protection of low-voltage conductors and distribution circuits against overload and short-circuit currents.

In the completed cabinet, four NH00 125A fuse links were arranged together with insulating separators and corresponding fuse bases. The photographs confirm a four-position fuse assembly, but the function of each pole should be verified from the customer's electrical schematic. This configuration allowed the fuse assembly to be incorporated into the customer's existing wiring and cabinet layout.

Standards context: NH blade-contact fuse systems are standardized under IEC 60269-2.

How the NH00 125A Fuse Protects the Circuit

During normal operation, load current flows through each fuse link to the associated downstream low-voltage circuit.

If an overcurrent condition exceeds the fuse link's operating limits, including a sustained overload or short circuit, the fuse element operates according to its time-current characteristics and interrupts the fault current. This helps:

  • Protect low-voltage conductors and distribution circuits against excessive current.
  • Reduce the risk of fault-related damage to connected electrical equipment.
  • Limit the duration and thermal effects of an electrical fault.
  • Support fault isolation and reduce the possibility of a fault affecting other parts of the distribution system, subject to proper protection coordination.
  • Provide a replaceable protective component for cabinet maintenance by authorized personnel.

The fuse rating and operating characteristics must be coordinated with the conductor current-carrying capacity, expected load current, possible inrush current, prospective short-circuit current and other protective devices in the system.

Integration Inside the JP Cabinet

The installation photographs show the NH00 fuse links mounted in an accessible area near the bottom of the cabinet. The installation should be assessed as part of the complete cabinet design, including clearances, conductor routing, temperature rise and accessibility.

The side-by-side arrangement offers several practical advantages:

  • Compact use of the available cabinet space.
  • Clear separation between adjacent fuse positions.
  • Convenient connection to color-coded conductors.
  • Easier visual inspection during assembly and maintenance.

Fuse-link replacement by authorized personnel after the circuit has been safely isolated and the cause of the fault has been identified and corrected.

The NH fuse links are used together with compatible NH fuse bases or holders selected for the cabinet design and electrical requirements. NH blade-contact fuse systems are covered by IEC 60269-2;

Project Result

This project demonstrates how NH00 gG fuse links can be applied in compact low-voltage distribution equipment where full-range overcurrent protection, protection coordination and maintainability must be considered together.

Other NH Fuse Ratings Available

In addition to the 125 A version used in this project, we can provide NH fuse links in different sizes, current ratings and specifications for a range of low-voltage distribution applications.

Product selection can be based on information such as:

  • System voltage

Fuse-link rated voltage

Required breaking capacity / prospective short-circuit current

  • Normal load current
  • Cable size and current-carrying capacity
  • Expected short-circuit current
  • Load and equipment type
  • Required utilization category
  • Fuse holder or fuse base specification
  • Cabinet space and installation method
  • Required quantity

The 125 A rating shown in this case was selected for this specific project. Fuse ratings for other installations should be confirmed through circuit-protection and selectivity and coordination calculations.
